Welcome!

WELCOME to the
 RENE FAMILY!

Fr. Richard, Jaime, Lily, Gabe and John

Arriving Thursday June 14th

As many of you know, Fr. Richard will be attached to St. Herman's as his 'home base'. He will not be assigned any particular duties at our parish, but will be free to visit other parishes and act as supply priest in the deanery. Like Fr. Justin Hewlett he will be working with the Traditional Learning Academy, and Mat. Jaime is helping get a local Orthodox Home Schooling co-operative going. We look forward to having them as part of our parish community.

Ascension Day

This Thursday May 24 we will serve a Vesperal Liturgy for the Feast of the Ascension at 7.00 pm, with a festal meal following afterward in the Church Hall.  Ascension Day marks the leave-taking of the Paschal season, and a local return to the usual fasting.  A meditation by Fr. Lawrence on the Ascension of our Lord can be accessed on our OCA website here.

Palm Sunday procession

The procession around the Church on Palm Sunday during the Third Antiphon was wonderful. Other photos of the day have been posted on our Spruce Island blog and can be seen here. (Thank you RW for posting them!)

Fr. Andrey reposes in the Lord

Our dear brother in Christ, Archpriest Andrey Somow, reposed in the Lord on March 29.
He was a good friend of our parish, and said that he loved worshipping with us.
His funeral arrangements are still being finalized.
Meanwhile, please keep Fr. Andrey and his family in your prayers.
His bio may be found on the website of his parish here.
May his memory be eternal!

Icon Procession Sunday March 4

This Sunday we will have an icon procession during the Divine Liturgy.  Please feel free to bring an icon from home to carry reverently in the procession.  The first Sunday of Great Lent had traditionally commemorated the restoration of icons and the Triumph of Orthodoxy over the iconoclasts.  Read more about how to make our procession here at our Spruce Island blog for February 29.  (Addendum:  And see photos of our own St. Herman's procession that day here on our Spruce Island blog for Tues. March 6.  Thank you "Lil'M" for posting them!)
